Stanley Kubrick's multifaceted enigma |
Released in 1980 as a film adaptation of it's homonym, Stephen King's 1977 bestselling horror novel, The Shining is a horror movie produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick. Though the central theme of this film is to stoke fear and anxiety, this particular scene depicting Danny Torrance (the boy played by Danny Lloyd) has been picked out for its subliminal messages. The carpet layout resembles the launch pads at Cape Canaveral when viewed fron the headshot. Danny's sweater reads Apollo 11, USA. As he gets up from the floor, he stands with a posture looking like a blast off from the ground, then advances towards room 237, when in fact, the hotel room in King's novel is numbered 217. The average distance of earth to the moon is in the region of 237 thousand miles. |
