European sovereign debt: Reverse migration post colonization |
When one speaks of European migration, it is usually understood that one is talking about people migrating from colonies, developing countries or third world countries to the affluent European continent. In our times, however, a new phenomenon has befallen the inhabitants of Europe. The economies of the member states which make up the European Union are stagnating and mired in debt. Young people are finding it increasingly difficult to find stable work in their respective fields, for which they have spent years training for, and hence, look elsewhere to start new lives. Some even contemplate immigrating to the former colonies, in what is called "reverse migration". |
